| FRAUD ALERT - SCAM OF THE WEEK |
| Saturday 1.23.10 - A friend of mine called at 8pm after getting porn site popups in Internet
Explorer. He was looking at new photos on a friend's Photobucket website,
then the fake Windows security warning popped up, prompting him to download
a "fix". SUPERAntiSpyware found the problem and fixed his PC in under 20 minutes. I had him run a full scan overnight to make sure his USB backup drive had not been affected as well. |
| Tuesday 1.5.10 - Another client gets hit with fake antivirus program. These malware / viruses make their way into your PC by tricking search engines such as Google and Yahoo into showing links to websites they own, or sites they have planted their programs on. Look very carefully at the links provided for your queries, I saw a link to a site in England when searching for the address of a Kmart store in California. Kmart.com was not even listed in the first 10 results. |
| Tuesday 12.01.09 - I just got this email, which says it's from the CDC. |
| You have received this e-mail because of the launching of State Vaccination
H1N1 Program. You need to create your personal H1N1 (swine flu) Vaccination Profile on the cdc.gov website. The Vaccination is not obligatory, but every person that has reached the age of 18 has to have his personal Vaccination Profile on the cdc.gov site. This profile has to be created both for the vaccinated people and the not-vaccinated ones. This profile is used for the registering system of vaccinated and not-vaccinated people. Create your Personal H1N1 Vaccination Profile using the link: |
| This is a scam, do not click on the link, it will take you to a site in
hosted in Belgium which has been blacklisted by many internet malware /
spam tracking sites. The email shows a return address from "alerts@cdcdelivery.gov",
but was really sent through a server in Estonia and relayed through Brazil.
